The Lumens Chamber Choir Choral Conducting Internship is a 12-month program designed to mentor the next generation of choral conductors. This hands-on opportunity provides aspiring conductors with real-world experience, expert mentorship and the chance to lead an ensemble in both rehearsals and live performances.

What is a Conducting Internship?
A conducting internship is a hands-on learning experience designed to help aspiring choral conductors develop their skills in a real-world setting. Conducting is much more than just waving your hands. It’s about leading an ensemble, shaping musical expression and communicating artistry through gesture. This internship provides a rare opportunity to work alongside an established chamber choir while learning from experienced mentors in a supportive and professional environment.

What Do Interns Learn?

As a Lumens Chamber Choir Conducting Intern, you’ll gain practical experience in choral leadership, including:

  • Conducting technique: develop clarity in gesture, posture and expression

  • Musical interpretation: learn how to shape phrasing, dynamics and articulation

  • Rehearsal leadership: gain confidence in running rehearsals efficiently and effectively

  • Score preparation: understand how to analyze and interpret choral works

  • Live performance experience: Step onto the podium and conduct during concerts

Throughout the internship, you will work closely with Kathryn Morton, Director of Lumens Chamber Choir, who will provide mentorship and guidance to refine your technical abilities.
