Lumens Chamber Choir
Lumens Chamber Choir is a choral ensemble that was formed in 2021 as an initiative of the Brisbane Chamber Choir. Directed by Kathryn Morton, this auditioned chamber group is suitable for focused singers aged 18 – 28 years and performs repertoire from Renaissance to Contemporary music in the traditional choral style. This ensemble aims to provide young adult singers with the skills of collaboration and artistry that come from working in a chamber ensemble. Since its inception, this ensemble has made a name for itself for excellence in choral music.
Kathryn Morton - Artistic Director
Coming from one of our distinguished choral families, Kathryn is one of the exciting generation of younger choral conductors. In addition to the Lumens Chamber Choir, her work as a conductor is focussed in her leadership of the internationally recognized St Peters Chorale whose recent performances in Germany and the UK received critical acclaim. Concerts by Kathryn’s choirs have been described as ‘superb’, ‘stunning’, ‘a delight’, and ‘evocative’. As a guest conductor, Kathryn regularly leads workshops, rehearsals and performances for primary, secondary and tertiary students as well as adults.
Educated at the University of Queensland with degrees in Music and Speech Pathology, she brings to her vocal studio at St Peters Lutheran College a high degree of technical skill and expressive nuance, preparing her students for entrance into tertiary institutions in Australia and overseas, and developing their ability to perform professionally in various styles.
This versatility has seen her conduct workshops in Australia and China, working with local schools and with organisations such as the School of Music in the University of Queensland, the Royal School of Church Music and the Bonyi Festival.
As a speech pathologist she consults with some of our leading singers, assisting them to maintain the vocal heath and well-being that is so essential in their profession.
